#IFBK23 – Turku full electric mobile library car.

In March 2020 car arrived to Finland and Turku just after Finland went covid lockdown and because of that we had good time to test drive car and also we had time to think and test what books we put what place. There was also time to mask car without need to hurry. In the lockdown time cars manufacturer gave us education about the car. Friday 5.6.2020 was a publication day for the car and also the name of car Lieke (old word for electricity) was announced and we drove first route. After the lockdown there was restrictions and only 2 person or 1 family can be inside the car so we didn’t see how car will work with bigger masses.

After covid.

After restrictions ended people continued using us and in restriction time we got new user group from those who only reserve books and they have stayed as our users so our users went up because of pandemic. Schools have also started to use our service normal way and we have car full of children looking for books to read.

Using of the car at stops.

In the mornings we go to schools and we take children in to the car at front door and they put their returns in the box next to the door and after that they can go to library area to look new books. Librarian at the front desk returns the books and bring them to library area to be borrow again. When they have found books what they want to borrow they will borrow them to middle desk and after that they will go out and back to the classroom from the middle door, that way we prevent books to go shelfs without returning. Evenings there is only one person working and patrons come inside from the middle door and also leave from the middle door, librarian works at the front desk.

Information about the car.

Manufacturer Jeti Indrusties LTD from Turku Finland. Car has been build in Xiamen China. Jeti E12LE is 12,1 meters long full electric mobile library car. Car was pilot for the manufacturer and newer model has already released. We have 172 kWh battery capacity and in summer I have drove over 170 km and in winter (-19 celsius) we have drove over 130 km with one charge, cars longest day is about 60 km so we have more than enough capacity. In 37 000 km driving we have saved 26 700 € compered to if we had to buy diesel to drive that, we have used about 50 000 kWh of electricity. Cars masking art has been designed by Turun Anikistit.
